In summer 2007, the Angora Fire devastated South Lake Tahoe by buring 3,100 acres and destroying 280 buildings. Some buildings, however, were able to survive this violent fire, even when adjacent to a building that burned. In this case study, Live Oak Wildfire investigates this phenomena. The photo documentation in this case study shows houses that survived even when surrounded by burning homes during the Angora Fire.
The Camp Fire of 2018, which burned the city of Paradise, is dubbed the most destructive and deadliest wildfire in California’s history. In terms of insurable losses, this fire was the most expensive natural disaster the world experienced in 2018. In this case study, we investigate the damage from the fire.
